Human development have always been responsible to resource usage in an unplanned fashion over the ages which has now lead to policy makers think in the direction of sustainability of mankind itself. The growth of population and resource constraint followed by exploitation of nature and its potential has lead to a questioning of carrying capacity of the mother earth. Recent changes in the climate has lead people rethink about their very existence since pollution has become a global issue and especially considering the trans-boundary effects of certain pollutants realized lately.
It is interesting to note that though a lot has been talked about sensitization and awareness about global warming, the implementation of projects and concepts for actual reduction of CO2 has not been the case. Thus, the level of interest amongst people has been tremendous to negotiate and implement carbon reduction projects, and carbon calculation is an effective and real-time application of concepts is difficult to be seen.
Technogreen thinks of 2 available ways to reduce the global warming accepted globally i.e. one through carbon trading and the other through carbon offsets. As far as carbon trade is concerned it seems to be working only at international level. It is mandatory for the Developed (Annex) countries to reduce the GHG emissions as per the targets set by the Kyoto Protocol. However, the developing countries have no such targets for reduction of GHG’s. In order to reduce the global concentrations of GHG, these annex countries provide financial support for reducing the carbon emissions on their behalf to the developing countries through carbon trade. On the other hand the second and easy way is through “CARBON OFFSET” wherein an individual/industry/organization decides that they don't want to be responsible for accelerating climate change, and they've already made efforts to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions, so they decide to pay someone else to further reduce their net emissions by planting trees or by taking up low-carbon technologies.
Technogreen has pioneered this concept through Pune Expo ’08 that involved various components emitting GHG through electricity for lighting of the area, emissions due to travel of persons, transport of equipment’s and others, solid waste generated, sewage generated, emissions from generators, and others. Attempts were made to make all necessary efforts to reduce the carbon emissions from the event though it was impossible after a certain extent to reduce further the emissions. However, a conceptualized attempt was proposed & implemented to make the event “carbon neutral” through carbon offsets i.e. some organization working towards climate change or otherwise was made to buy the carbon emissions of the event at a mutually negotiated cost for a beneficial transaction and the money made available through this shall be utilized for climate change program such as awareness, tree plantations, capacity building, project implementation for GHG reduction etc. Thus, it was in mind that the financial transaction did not profit any of them and was utilized for climate change initiatives. Technogreen Environmental Solutions, pioneering this concept come up & successfully implemented this unique concept of Carbon Offset for making the Pune Expo ’08 Carbon Neutralisation & carried out the entire assessment of carbon footprint of the event, created documents in line with international standards and database available as well as identified and explored opportunities with buyers and planned the strategy for utilization of money.
